A unique event where once again we will be descending into the Cwmorthin Mine, all thanks to the team at Go Below. You will be taken into a candle lit chamber and every member of the audience will have their own candle too – this will create an unbelievable atmosphere. The amazing acoustics of the chamber will provide the perfect venue to enjoy a selection of Welsh and English Carols together with two solo performances.

The Programme

  1. Meet at the Tanygrisiau Car Park near Lakeside Cafe LL41 3TP at 6.00pm
((other parking available in the Go Below Car Park just before cafe).
  2. Walk to the mine entrance
(picking up a helmet and headtorch on the way)
  3. Bilingual Introduction
  4. Selection of Carols. solo performances (singers and musicians)
  5. Hot Mulled Wine & Mince Pies
  6. Walk back to car park and home!

Due to the steep and uneven terrain this event is only for the sure footed. There are around 80 steep steps with a guide rope  – approximately 30 – 40 minutes of walking each way. You need to allow 3 – 3 and a half hours for the entire event. You will be accompanied by qualified mine leaders and their assistants courtesy of Go Below.

Young children over the age of 10 can come along. Younger children can only attend by prior arrangement with Go Below as we need to ensure we have the correct safety equipment on hand – remember this is not just an event, its an adventure!

All safety equipment will be provided but you will need to bring a torch, wear suitable clothing and wellington boots are essential for entering the mine as there will be some surface water along the access passage. Once underground the temperature stays at a constant 9 degrees so make sure you will be warm enough.

Please note there are NO toilet facilities.

There will also be a small raffle on the night for some really great prizes – £5 a ticket so remember to bring along some cash.
